한국 전통음악인 '국악'은 오랜 역사와 전통을 지닌 음악으로, 자연과 사람의 감정을 담고 있으며, 느림과 여백, 조화로움을 중요시합니다.

그리고 오늘 여러분이 배우게 될 국악의 악기는 바로 거문고입니다.

거문고는 약 1,500년 전 백제의 악사 '왕산악'이 중국의 칠현금을 개조하여 만든 악기입니다.

이 악기의 소리가 너무도 훌륭해 고구려 장수왕이 크게 칭찬하며 높은 벼슬을 내렸다고 합니다. 왕산악이 연주할 때 신비한 검은 학이 날아와 춤을 추었다는 이야기도 전해집니다.

거문고의 구조는 커다란 나무 울림통 위에 16개의 괘와 기러기 발 모양의 안족 3개가 올려져 있으며, 여섯 개의 줄을 손으로 뜯고 눌러 연주합니다.

그 소리는 낮고 깊으며, 중후하고 남성적인 힘찬 느낌을 가지고 있어 마치 조용한 산속 바람 소리처럼 깊은 울림이 느껴집니다.

거문고는 단순한 악기를 넘어 한국의 정서와 철학, 전통이 담긴 귀중한 문화유산입니다. 과거 학자나 선비들은 거문고를 연주하며 마음을 표현하고 정신을 닦았습니다.

오늘 임지송 대표님께서 연주하실 거문고 독주곡 '산조'는 느린 장단으로 시작해 점점 빠르고 화려하게 전개되는 즉흥 연주로, 연주자마다 다른 매력이 있습니다.

Gugak, Korea's traditional music, holds a long history and rich heritage. It reflects the emotions of people and nature, valuing slowness, space, and harmony. Today, you will be learning about a traditional Korean musical instrument called the geomungo.

The geomungo was created about 1,500 years ago by a Baekje musician named Wang San-ak, who adapted it from the Chinese seven-string zither called guqin. The sound of the instrument was so beautiful that King Jangsu of Goguryeo highly praised it and granted Wang San-ak a high official position. There’s even a legend that a mysterious black crane danced in the air when Wang San-ak performed.

The geomungo is constructed with a large wooden soundbox, 16 frets, and three movable bridges shaped like wild goose feet. It has six silk strings that are plucked and pressed with the hands. Its sound is low and deep, with a solemn and masculine resonance, evoking the tranquil sound of wind in the mountains.

More than just an instrument, the geomungo represents Korean sentiment, philosophy, and tradition. In the past, scholars and Confucian gentlemen would play the geomungo to express their inner feelings and cultivate their minds.

Today, Representative Lim Ji-song will perform a solo piece called Geomungo Sanjo. Sanjo is an improvised solo performance that begins with a slow rhythm and gradually develops into faster, more elaborate sections. Each performer brings their own unique charm to the piece. Let’s embark on a wonderful journey into the traditional sounds of Korea with the geomungo sanjo, which expresses a full range of human emotions—joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness.
